Murray Wins First BRCA National

26 March 2019

This weekend saw the final round of the LMP12 BRCA National Championship, held at Chesterfield, UK.

The Cars club put together a fantastic looking track, perfect for LMP12 cars with ideal curbs for this class of racing, a new feature for this round.

On Saturday, the 13.5 turn Stock class was raced by all, split into 3 divisions F1, 2 and 3.  In the highest F1 division, Andy Murray and Louis Parker could take strong A final results, with Andy especially quick, leading the race until some bad luck pushed him back to second, where he eventually finished behind former World Champion, David Spashett.

In F3, 11 year old Daniel Robins pumped his ability up yet another level, winning this class in an effortless manor.  Well done again Daniel, your rate of progress is scary and exciting for us at Schumacher.

A trial 17.5 turn class was run at this national, with Mark Jewitt and Andy Sawyer taking a dominant 1-2 in this class with their Eclipse 2’s.

Sunday saw the main class raising its pace to modified, with Sports the other class, using the same equipment as Saturdays racing.
In modified, yet again 5 Schumacher Eclipse 2’s would feature in the A final.  Schumacher designer Andy Murray lining up 2nd on the grid, Louis Parker 4th, Ben Elliott 6th, Daniel Robin’s 8th (First ever top category national A final!) and Andy Sawyer 10th.  Well done everyone!
In the final, David and Andy could break away from the pack in the early stages.  Andy could follow David closely and apply some pressure before a small mistake from David would give Andy the lead.  From then on a highly controlled drive ensured his first ever LMP12 National win after 11 years of relentlessly hard effort.

In the Sports class A final, Mark Jewitt took a super impressive pole position.  The only other Schumacher in this A final, Joshua Coult qualified 5th.  The final was fantastic for our team as Mark masterly controlled the race to take the win with Josh coming through the order to take his first podium finish, giving Schumacher a 1-2 in this class!  Well done!
