LC Racing at Swedish Nationals

13 March 2014

This past weekend saw Andy Jones head over to the final round of the Swedish 1/16th Scale Nationals in Halmstad and took the first victory in Sweden for Team LC Racing / Schumacher running his EMB-1 vehicle.

Although the Swedish series have adopted the rules laid out by the BRCA here in the UK, the format of the weekend differs.  Saturday saw practice sessions in ability order starting from 10am and running through to as late as you wanted to stay.  This helped Andy get used the control slick tyres and additive that is used there as the grip levels were ever changing as the temperature changed.  Throughout the practice day Andy was setting a quick pace ahead of the reigning Swedish Champion Sebastian Johansson, young local drive Sebastian Eriksson and Dan Isaksson with not a lot separating the fastest laps.

Sunday was race day and the 41 competitors were split into 5 heats and each had 2 rounds of practice, 5 qualifiers and 3-legged 7 minute finals.  The format of qualifying was your best 2 runs added together and with only 8 places available in the A-Main it was important to get a good start.  Sebastian Johansson and Andy were the quick drivers throughout the day and Andy duly lined up second on the grid, some 12 seconds behind Sebastian with these two drivers the only drivers to complete 20 laps in one 5-minute run.  Being second on the grid proved to be a good omen for Andy as he took all 3 legs in comfortable style to record victory. Sebastian Johansson came in second place and local driver Tobias Mortensen, also driving an EMB-1, came home in third to record his best ever finish at a Swedish event

Andy would like to thank everyone for the hospitality shown over in Sweden and is hoping to make this a regular journey for the British 1/16th drivers.
