Danish Off Road Success

11 September 2012

Round 7,  the final round of the Danish championship was held at Viborg RC Racing track 1-2 September. Again the Schumacher trio performed well.  5 rounds of qualifying were held Saturday with a nice BBQ and driver’s party in the evening. 3 rounds of finals and a training heat were held Sunday. Weather was  sunny most of the event with a few showers. Track is covered with carpets and does absorb water well.

In the Stock class Christian Lassen demonstrated that the CAT SX2 still is competitive setting best times in qualifying and another TQ for the records. In the finals Christian continued performing and took the win in 1st and 3d heat and by that winning round 7.  At the same time Christian secured the overall Stock championship great achievement by the young driver.

The 2WD class is the most competitive class with many former national champions on the grid. Jesper Rasmussen again challenged the elite with his SV2 and some great performance on the high grip track. Qualifying did not take of in the best way with a number of drivers mistakes and some marshaling issues. During the day things improved and Jesper could start from 4th position in the A-final.

In the 1st A-final Jesper came off the grid with a smart move in the start and was in 2nd place after the first corner. He managed to put pressure on leader Torben Højfeldt for the entire 6 minutes and a the last corner Jesper put his SV2 on the inside, gave it full throttle over the finish line and won heat 1 with an 0.07 sec. margin. In the second final all drivers were on yellow Schumacher Minipins, but clouds were hanging heavy with light rain when the final started, driver hoped for the track to stay dry since grip will reduce dramatically. In the slippery conditions Jesper again had a good start and after a few laps he was in the lead. Lars Alex tried everything to pass , but Jesper kept his cool and his Cougar SV2 performed well under these conditions. He crossed the finish line in first place securing the first win to Jesper and his Cougar in the 2WD class on Danish ground. With this fine result Jesper moved up to third place in the overall 2WD Championship.

Jesper took the win in 4 out of 5 round in qualifying and securing TQ and the extra point closing in on the overall championship. Victor was in good shape on his home ground and qualified his SX3 in third position for the A-finals.

In the finals  Jesper was flying and won round 1 and 2 showing strong performance with the SX3 and overall win of the day. Victor had some serious battles with Frederik and managed in rd 3 to win the last final heat and by that securing a 1-2 Victory to Schumacher for the day. With his second place Victor also ensured an overall third place in championship.

The Championship was secured with Jesper´s victory and the young lad is the youngest ever 4WD Champion in DRCMU 23 years history, however  4WD champions is not new for the Rasmussen family as Jesper´s dad Ulrich Rasmussen won the first DRCMU championship back in 1989 with a Schumacher CAT XLS.
